“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”2 Corinthians 5:10 (KJV)
Judgment taught soberly and hopefully: nothing hidden is finally overlooked, good or bad.
Judgment has been misused to frighten people, and removing it altogether does not make God kinder. It makes Him indifferent to cruelty, which is no comfort at all to those who have been wronged.
The doctrine says nothing is finally overlooked. Every hidden cruelty is seen, and so is every quiet act of faithfulness that nobody noticed.
For the believer this is accounting, not condemnation. Let it do its proper work: not fear that drives you from God, but seriousness that makes today count.
A prayer to close
Lord Jesus, You are a righteous Judge. Let the certainty of that day make me serious about today. Search me and correct what is wrong. Amen.
