“For the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)
People assess you on what they can see. God assesses something they cannot reach.
Samuel, a genuinely godly man, got it wrong. He looked at the impressive brother and assumed. God corrected him, and the one nobody had bothered to call in from the field was the one chosen.
This is not permission to dismiss all correction. Sometimes people see something true that we would rather not hear. But it does mean that a human verdict is not the final one, and that being overlooked by people is not the same as being rejected by God.
If someone's judgment of you has kept you away from God, you have given them an authority they were never granted. God is still calling. Answer Him.
A prayer to close
Lord, You see my heart, including what others have misjudged and what they have never known. Heal what their words did, and help me answer Your call. Amen.
