“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”2 Corinthians 5:10 (KJV)
Scripture promises an accounting. Understood rightly, it produces neither terror nor carelessness, but seriousness and hope.
Judgment is not a popular subject, and it has been misused to frighten people. But removing it altogether does not make God kinder. It makes Him indifferent, and an indifferent God is no comfort at all to those who have been wronged.
The doctrine of judgment says that nothing is finally overlooked. Every hidden cruelty is seen. Every quiet act of faithfulness that no one noticed is also seen, and it is remembered.
For the believer, this is a matter of accounting, not of condemnation. Scripture is clear that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. What remains is the weighing of a life lived.
So let it do its proper work. Not fear that drives you from God, but seriousness that makes today count, because today is part of what will be reviewed.
Key points
- Removing judgment does not make God kinder, only indifferent.
- Nothing hidden is finally overlooked, good or bad.
- For those in Christ this is accounting, not condemnation.
A prayer to close
Lord Jesus, You are a righteous Judge. Let the certainty of that day make me serious about today. Search my life, correct what is wrong, and establish what is done in faith. Amen.
