What I noticed reading Psalm 91

I had always read this psalm as a promise that nothing bad happens to believers, which never matched what I saw around me. Reading it slowly this week, the condition at the start stood out: he that dwelleth. Dwelling, not visiting. That changed how I read the rest of it.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
